Work in progress
Had a break in the weather so I was able to take these experimental pieces onto the beach at sunset to test the colours and textures. Made with 3d pen, paper and resin, finished with acrylic paint. Work in progress
I'm stopping these daily videos, there's not enough interest to make it worthwhile. This will be the last one for a while.
Todays video is a 3 colour monoprint with oil paint on paper. (Square format)
Iāve been working on a series of monoprints so thought Iād film some videos for the YouTube channel. Oil paint on 270gsm paper. Prussian Blue and Cadmium Red.
You will find a link in the description of todays video to buy this poster featuring 9 sketches.
I wanted to show the whole process of this technique without any edits so this series of videos are slightly longer. I have made an edit to allow the paint to dry before I begin to work with the charcoal and pencils.
It's a good exercise to get creative and try not to worry too much about the end result. Hopefully it will inspire you to just start making marks.
Acrylic paint, conte pencils and charcoal on mixedmedia paper. 290gsm. Filmed live with no edits (only to allow the paint to dry)
Filming the new YouTube video this morning. Acrylic paint, charcoal and conte pencils on paper. Spray with a fixative to prevent smudges.
This weeks series of videos are slightly longer and they are edited to allow for the paint to dry. Trying to get into the regular routine of posting a daily video and each week trying a different technique.
Work in progress. Deciding on this weeks new series of videos. I've had this poster of 9 of my small sketches on the ceiling of my studio for a few years (from the SPRING shop) I'm going to reproduce some for the videos. Thought some colour was needed on a dull, wet, miserable and cold day.
Todays video is the last of this series of monochrome monoprints but I will be filming more in the future as I know that this is technique has been popular. Thanks to all your positive comments, I appreciate the feedback and itās always good to know that they inspire you with your own creativity. Tomorrow I begin another week long series exploring colours with acrylic and charcoal sketches.
I really enjoy working on this series of short unedited videos, it allows me to be much more natural and try as much as possible to show the creative process. This morning I decided not to plan anything, I simply set everything up and turned the camera on. Hope it inspires you. Just one more in this series before I begin to film another technique but I will return to these in the future.
Todays monochrome monoprint was inspired by the frozen pond this morning and the fractured ice floating on the surface. Used scissors and card to form sharp edged fragments. Hopefully this will inspire you.
Thanks for all your kind comments about the recent series of videos, I will try to reply as soon as I can but it is very much appreciated.
On Thursday I will start a new series of videos exploring colour with acrylic paint and charcoal..
Exploring texture today using rice in todays monoprinting demo. The results can be mixed but interesting effects can be achieved. This composition reminds me of a crashing wave caught against a breakwater on a stormy day.
Todays video is another monochrome monoprint, using oil paint on 270gsm paper (colours used Prussian Blue and Vandyke Brown mix).
Here you see abstract figures emerging from the mark making process. I use masks at the beginning to form the shapes but then improvised the composition trying not to overwork this.
I will continue this series of videos this week then move on to another technique for next weeks videos.
Thanks for watching and I hope these new videos inspire your own creativity.
Iām starting to post short unedited videos on my YouTube channel. I want to make them as simple as possible, no edits, no timelapse, no description or voice over, some background music may be used but each video will be as close to possible as an example of how I work in my studio. These will be filmed and posted on the same day and will show various techniques, not really instructional demos but hopefully something to inspire. They won't always be abstract and from time to time I will post longer videos. All work will be available from the website shop. I will post any explanation or materials list here on my website rather than YouTube. Thanks as always for your support and comments, Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy these new videos.
